Amby on Oxford Street

Indians and Indian Restaurants are a common sight in London. So are some of the latest India-bred cars like Hyundai i-10 and Suzuki Swift.

But, to my amazement I saw our "good old thorough-bred Indian Amby" on Oxford Street yesterday decorated as a wedding car. Yeah ... the HINDUSTAN MOTORS' AMBASSADOR GRAND CLASSIC 1.4 Diesel, the king of Indian cars.

Hmmm... Why not? an Amby on the streets of London, which is an imported car over here ... did attract the attention of passers-by :)

Me in Central London :)

10 Rules for Successful Life

An early morning e-mail with inspirational thoughts always enlightens my day. This excerpt was sent by my dearest friend Nihira today J via emai

Here the 10 Rules for Successful Life:

(1)  Never think or speak negatively about yourself; that puts you in disagreement with God.

(2)  Meditate on your God-given strengths and learn to encourage yourself, for much of the time nobody else will.

(3)  Don't compare yourself to anybody else.  You're unique, one of a kind, an original.  So don't settle for being a copy.

(4)  Focus on your potential, not your limitations.  Remember, God lives in you!

(5)  Find what you like to do, do well, and strive to do it with excellence.

(6)  Have the courage to be different.  Be a God pleaser, not a people pleaser.

(7)  Learn to handle criticism.  Let it develop you instead of discourage you.

(8)  Determine your own worth instead of letting others do it for you.  They'll short-change you!

(9)  Keep your shortcomings in perspective - you're still a work in progress.

(10)  Focus daily on your greatest source of confidence - the God Who lives in you.

Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future and relationships. Please try it in your life

21 ways to be happy

Article Courtesy: DAILY MIRROR - Article published in “Bangalore Times” dated 16-10-2008

Life may feel miserable but,in many ways, we’ve never had it so good. So cast off those blues with our guide to instant joy

Paying your EMIs, feeding the family and paying for the odd treat is getting tough as bills soar. You’d think that coping with the credit crunch would have us all sick with worry… But, in fact, we’re doing really well — fitter, stronger, healthier and living longer. “Life expectancy is so good that eliminating all accidents and infectious diseases would only raise it by a further two years,” says Prof Steve Jones, of University College London. Most of us are warm, well-fed and healthy. Still miserable? Try these to be happy...
BOOST YOUR SELF-ESTEEM
Identify what you’re good at and do it. Self-esteem is linked to happiness and surveys show the feeling of success is a common source of joy.
AVOID INFO OVERLOAD
A study found that people who multi-task are likelier to have high blood pressure. So instead of talking on the phone while picking up the kids’ toys, sit down and focus on the conversation.
WASH YOUR HAIR
A century ago, women washed their hair once a month using borax or egg yolks. Enjoy modern haircare products and wash your tresses every day. Clean hair makes you feel good.
MAKE TIME FOR FRIENDS
People with a circle of supportive friends are likelier to have healthier blood pressure, cholesterol levels and stress hormone levels than those with two or fewer close friends.
TAKE PART
Feel what you think doesn’t matter? It does. Have your say by voting.
COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
Focus on what you’ve got, not what you’re missing. A study found that people who took the time to count their blessings once a week boosted their mood and improved their health and energy levels. And it relieved pain and fatigue, too.
GET RID OF THAT NIGGLING TASK
Visit the doctor, answer a difficult email or buy something you need. Crossing an irritating item off your to-do list will give you a rush of energy.
PAMPER A POOCH
Walking and stroking pets can relieve stress, lower blood pressure and heart rates. One study showed pets are better than spouses at relieving stress.
ENJOY YOUR JOB
In 1908, a typical working day was 14 hours with few breaks. There was no employment regulation and no minimum wage. Still hate your job?
GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Few of us get enough sleep and that makes us grumpy. Getting into bed by 8 pm one night with a book — and turning the light out an hour later — can do more for your mood than any amount of therapy.
SING IN THE SHOWER
Music activates parts of the brain that produce happiness, the same parts activated by sex and food. So in the morning tune the radio to your favourite station and sing along.
VISIT A QUIET PLACE
Museums, parks, libraries and places of worship provide islands of peace in a frantic world. Find a quiet place near your home and make it your secret hideaway.
STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR AGE
Celebrate all your birthdays. Remember when you were 10 how 21 seemed ancient? Enjoy your age, because you won’t be this young again.
IGNORE THE STOCK MARKET
Chinese researchers have found a direct link between the daily performance of the stock market and the mental health of those who follow it. If you don’t have money invested, ignore it. If you do, remember time heals financial wounds. Give your investments time — and give yourself a break.
HAVE A GOOD CRY
Bottling up emotions can lead to a build-up of suppressed anxiety and anger. Let your emotion come out when you’re upset and have a good cry.
LIGHT AN OIL BURNER
Getting a good nose-full of lavender aids deep relaxation. Find a scent that soothes you and burn it when you’re relaxing or put a few drops of essential oil into your bath.
SAY “I LOVE YOU”
Tell those close to you that you love them. A little praise never hurts.
GIVE YOURSELF SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO
It may be just a walk in the park or reading a book. Build these treats into your daily life.
VOLUNTEER TO HELP OUT
Helping others less fortunate that yourself puts your own problems into perspective.
CHANGE YOUR THINKING
People who survive a terminal illness, accident or witness a tragedy have a different perspective on life. Many say that they no longer leave anything until later. They travel now, learn a new skill now, contact an old friend the same day the thought pops into their head. Follow their lead - try living for today and not tomorrow.
WATCH IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE
This classic 1946 film stars James Stewart as George Bailey who, facing financial troubles, is about to commit suicide when he meets his guardian angel Clarence. It guarantees a smile

Yet another Hilarious Forward mail.

Excerpts from the forward mail:

I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes (he is 74). We decided to grab a bite at the food court. I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him.

The teenager had spiked hair in all different colours: green, red, orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at him.

The teenager would look and find him staring every time.

When the teenager had enough, he sarcastically asked, 'What's the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?

Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not choke on his response, knowing he would have a good one.

And in classic style he did not bat an eye in his response .

'Got drunk once and had sex with a peacock. I was just wondering if you were my son.'

Recent TV Commercials which I loved so much...

Some TV Commercials not only captivate you when you watch them but also keep lingering in your mind and leaves a sweet and lasting impression.
Though the US financial firms are having a down side, the Indian financial institutions are trying to emphasize their credibility and trust-worthiness via some cool, sweet and innovative advertisements. Here are some for your view.

Union Bank of India (Chweet Kid .. Sone kaa daanth ad): This ad is so lovely that I melted down on the sweet innocent words of the kid which is so caring yet mature.

Union Bank of India (Taxi Ad): Via this ad I literally could see my parents in that place. Seldom I too try to act mature ignoring my parents. But as always they reassure you that they are always there for you. The first time I saw this ad was like "dejavu" and yeah there was "tears of joy" as well.

Max Newyork Life Insurance: Beautifully depicts circle of aspirations.

HDFC Standard Life:

IDBI Bank: Not just for the big boys. Could not find the video of this ad. So have linked to the Storyboard of the ad.

4-4-5-4-9-8 is Happy Birthday to You

Came across this tit-bit.

Dial “4-4-5-4-9-8” on your phone.

The tone will be similar to the Happy Birthday tune J

Finished reading "LEADERSHIP WISDOM from The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari"

I just finished reading "LEADERSHIP WISDOM from The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari". This is the second book by Robin Sharma, which I have picked up to read after “THE MONK WHO SOLD HIS FERRARI”.

The foremost thing I like about Robin Sharma’s books is that when one reads the chapters of the book, it is like being on a personal journey. The text is so engaging that you can relate yourself to every situation/problem explained and the solution to realize it. The wisdom exposed in the book is absorbable instantly.

In “LEADERSHIP WISDOM”, Robin Sharma takes you on yet another journey to elicit leadership wisdom via “THE 8 RITUALS OF VISIONARY LEADERS”

  1. Link Paycheck to Purpose (The Ritual of a Compelling Future Focus)
  2. Manage by Mind, Lead by Heart (The Ritual of Human Relations)
  3. Reward Routinely, Recognize Relentlessly (The Ritual of Team Unity)
  4. Surrender to Change (The Ritual of Adaptability and Change Management)
  5. Focus on the Worthy (The Ritual of Personal Effectiveness)
  6. Leader Lead Thyself (The Ritual of Self Leadership)
  7. See What All See, Think What None Think (The Ritual of Creativity and Innovation)
  8. Link Leadership to Legacy (The Ritual of Contribution and Significance)

I personally enjoyed the journey of reading this book and I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is willing to be wise and wishes to evolve as a leader and leave behind a legacy. As Robin Sharma says, you don’t need a title to lead – “Lead without Title”.

Visit www.robinsharma.com for more on Robin Sharma’s offerings.

Creativity & Innovation at the Workplace

  • Creativity is always stifled when people feel that they have something to lose.
  • Visionary leaders never manage creativity; they simply unleash/uncover it and allow it to flood the organization.
  • Life should be lived as play. So is work.
  • The company that plays together stays together.
  • See what others see, Think what none think. Find hope where others feel despair. See light where others see only darkness.
